"They have turned their backs on Me and not their faces; yet when they are in trouble, they say, 'Come and save us!" Jeremiah 2:27c
Talk about a "timely" Book; that statement spoken by the Prophet Jeremiah could have been aired this morning as'breaking news" on live television.
It is amazing how history repeats itself.
It is also very sad.
Who would have thought even as recently as the end of World War Two that the population of the United States of America; "One Nation Under God", could have drifted as far away from it roots.
We are almost at the point where one could truthfully declare 'NOTHING IS SACRED ANYMORE!"
Re-read...slowly...the Scripture printed across the top of this page.
Who can successfully deny that this could have been the headline that opened this morning's tv newscast?
It is a picture...and a very sad one...of the United States of America.
But SADLY THE BIBLE DECLARES..."He who knows to do good, and does not do it..to him it is sin." James 4:17

"If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all." Isaiah 7:9b
Have you noticed sadly how this statement of God is being fulfilled in America right now?
I am old enough to remember the post war days of World War Two as returning service men came home and chose to make the worship of God their highest priority every Sunday.
These men had served their country, and God has protected them to return to their home town and begin life again as "heroes" to us who had stayed behind; too young, or old, to qualify for military duty.
.
These men had stood for their country.
Now they came home and stood for their God.
It made a huge difference all over our little county as boys who had become men gave clear evidence of their faith in God.
They had showed their love for America, and now to show it for God they worshipped Him.
And as they did, we noticed.
Their faith made a difference.
OUR'S CAN DO THE SAME TODAY WHEN WE MAKE GOD OUR CHOICE.

"If My people who are called by My name shall humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14
What is there about this promise of God that America does not understand?
Obviously, there is something.
Otherwise we would not be in the drought that is perishing us to SPIRITUAL death for lack of God's revival blessings.
God has clearly given us the solution to our problem.
IF we turn to Him in faith and trust, He promises to forgive our sin and heal our land.
If is a very tiny word.
It carries huge dividends or unimaginable consequences.
God is gracious.
Up till now He has waited for our response.
How much longer?

"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.: Ps. 51:10
The Holy Spirit has peeled back all the covering from David to help us see exactly how God would have us approach Him when we have disappointed both Him and ourself when sin enters our heart.
David recognized the problem, confessed his sin, and petitioned God to forgive him and create within him a clean heart and totally new spirit.
He's willing and ready to do the very same thing for us.
Do not doubt for a moment that He brings conviction that we may recognize the seriousness and sinning against Him and cry out to Him for forgiveness.
There is only one way to settle any sin question in your life.
FACE, CONFESS, and forsake whatever sin has enslaved you as you confess it to God and ask for His forgiveness.
David received forgiveness and became the man of God he was chosen to be.
He was not the "exception".
We, too can become that person.

"Not by might nor by power. but by My Spirit, says the Lord Almighty." Zech. 6b
The lyrics of a hymn remind us to "Turn our eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace."
How true.
It is easy to dwell on the negatives in a time such as our's.
Thank God it is not by our might or power, but by the mighty hand of God that miracles occur.
We need a miracle in America today.
Can you accept the fact that turning away from the world and coming straight to God through Jesus is precisely what He would have us do, that He might see our repentance and return to faith and bless us more abundantly that our minds can imagine.
Where does it begin?
In our hearts.
When they are tuned to God, so will be our eyes and all the rest of our anatomy.
This coming Sunday is an excellent time to make the turn.
There is a church eager to welcome you.

"But if any nation does not listen, I will completely uproot and destroy it, declares the Lord." Jer. 12:17
God said it.
"Any" nation that does not listen.
It is alarming; the things God has said in His Word concerning whole nations guilty of turning their backs on Him.
ARE WE LISTENING AMERICA?
Worship attendance and church support prove we are not.
Therefore, based on what God has said He will completely uproot and destroy this land..
We find this hard to believe....until...we check the facts.
God is speaking.
Who is listening?
Facts report VERY FEW.
If a change takes place, who will make it happen?

"The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms." Deut. 33:23
This verse brings to mind Psalm 46:1, "God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble."
How comforting in a day such as our's!
I am still reminded of my childhood when air conditioning was practically unheard of and the doors and windows of our home were closed only in winter, AND NEVER LOCKED.
It was not necessary.
We trusted God to take care of us, and we also trusted others to do unto us as we would do unto them.
Do you long for such times again?
They are coming for all who know Christ personally as Lord and Savior.
And the most glorious part of all is this.
YOU CAN EXPERIENCE THIS FOR YOURSELF.
Call on Him in prayer. He is listening to hear from you.

"Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." Ps. 46:10
Once daily I try to tune in the national news on television.
Seldom does it even speak of God, much less exalt Him.
But I know that the day is coming when it will.
He said so.
He has never ceased.
He always has said so, but only to those who are listening for Him.
In troubling times how can I hear His voice?
Be still.
Listen.
Listen for HIM.
You will hear Him, and when you do you won't have to wonder.

"Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written it it. Then you will be prosperous and successful." Joshua 1:8
Should you need an encouragement and reminder to spend time daily in the Word of God, these words spoken by Joshua can help.
Several people I know refer to their study of the Bible as their DQT, their daily quiet time with God.
It is one of those truly good habits, or better put, good PRACTICES that will lead you to hear what God is saying directly to you.
Even in this day of GPS that can pinpoint one's exact location, the Bible has the unique ability to direct you to where you ought to be, both now and for eternity.
Never discount the value of discovering what the Bible teaches.
It IS an INVESTMENT!

"The kingdom of heaven is like treasurer hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field." Mt. 13:44
As a very young Christian I was taught that this saying of Christ was a parable; an earthly story with a heavenly meaning.
Here was a man who discovered a treasure in a field worth far more than he could afford unless he completely sold out what he owned and used the funds to purchase the field.
This is exactly what he did.
He made himself poor that he might become rich by becoming owner of a field far greater in value than anything he possessed.
This is what every unsaved sinner does when he turns from his sin and invests his life in Christ whose value is of far greater worth than anything his money could have purchased.
It is not an easy choice.
But it is the right one.
And God will honor it with blessings beyond our wildest imagination.
Try it and see.

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Tim. 3:16
You never waste time studying the Bible.
It is always an investment.
It always bears dividends.
In what else can you invest your time with guaranteed success?
Some refer to this as a Daily Quiet Time; their DQT.
Do you have one?
Of the Bible, it is "God-breathed"; something He Himself has spoken.
Prove it for yourself.
Spend five minutes listening to TV news and five minutes reading the Bible.
Which message is not subject to change?
God says, "I am the same; yesterday, today, and forever."

"For God so loved the world He gave His only only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life." Jh. 3:16
'Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit; was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world; was taken up to glory." I Tim. 3:16
See the whole Gospel in these two verses.
God loved man so much He gave His Son Who appeared in a human body that remained pure in a sinful world and died for the sin of man.
Then, vindicated by the Holy Spirit Jesus arose from the grave, was taken up to glory from where he is coming again to receive us unto Himself that we may be with Him forever.
Who BUT GOD could have loved us enough to work out such a perfect plan for our salvation?

"Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth." Ps. 46:10
World news denies what David wrote in the Psalm shown above.
It is all about everything EXCEPT the exaltation of Jehovah God.
But it is still the truth; that He is God!
The very personal question posed to us is "AM I EXALTING HIM?"
Less than two days ago it was Sunday in America; church day.
Were you present when the "roll was called" at your's?
God said, "I will be exalted"
He has given us the privilege of bringing this to pass.
How are we doing?

"But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit and through belief in the truth." 2 Thes. 2:13
If you have the joy of knowing Christ as your Savior, you are the recipient of God's greatest blessing; eternal life in heaven.
These past weeks as we have celebrated the days leading up to Easter, and then Easter itself, have been such a reminder of the importance of Christians demonstrating their faith by keeping these days Holy and sharing Christ by being part of worship services and very special family times.
Think about what Paul said in the verse above.
God saved us.
He gave His only Son to do this.
Every Sunday we can do exactly what Paul wrote above and testified to. We can worship publicly in the church.

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed." Proverbs 16:3
WOW!!
But before jumping to conclusions, note first the necessity of committing your plans to the Lord.
That is considerably different from just making up your mind that something will come to pass and presuming upon God.
First, WALK your plans by God.
If they line up with What He says, you can count on them coming to pass.
It sometimes takes time to clear your plans with God's.
But oh how much times it saves when what you desire, and what He pleases, is one and the same.
This is not a "cop out".
It's God's way of handling things.
Always best.
Test it and see.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding." Prov. 3:5
Isn't that a reasonable request?
Why would any anyone find this unacceptable in a nation proclaiming itself as One Nation Under God?
A mystery, isn't it?
But true none the less.
About 70% of Americans (or more) fall in this category, based upon regular church attendance mostly around Easter Sunday morning and Christmas Eve at midnight.
Twice a year to voluntarily enter a place of worship to publicly acknowledge God.
To say the least, "that's pretty shabby" for America, the home of the brave and the land of the free as sung regularly before every major sporting event from coast to coast on television..
That's a sad commentary to say the least.
It can be changed.
Without doubt.
With help from us!

"Let us not give up meeting together. as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the day approaching.: Heb. 10:25
No more timely words than these could be spoken today.
They are a call to faithfulness to every member of the church; far too many with decreasing attendance, and most tragically, the closing of some.
This is a fact...and indeed a very sad one.
The writer of Hebrews pleaded for two things:
Do not give up on the church.
Encourage others to join you in both praying for and regularly attending the one where you have your membership.
Continuous absenteeism doesn't correlate with encouragement for others to attend.
Take to heart the passage at the top. You will never regret it.

"I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me." Phil. 3:12b
One's salvation is precious, but Paul makes clear that there is so much more yet to be obtained; the full and abundant life that lies beyond the day of one's salvation.
And it, like salvation, is God's gift
It is NOT a "second blessing", but the blessing that came the moment you received Christ.
That blessing is the indwelling Holy Spirit, the One who convinced you that you needed Christ as your Savior, and now abides in you to direct your life in paths of righteousness.
He is there to help you.
HELPER is one of His names.
He is also known as the COMFORTER.
Whatever you need to live for Christ, He is there to assist you.
How do you experience His assistance.
Press on daily with Him in control, just as Paul said.

"So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question." Acts 15:2
The last two days we have taken a quick glance at Barnabas whose name means "son of consolation".
It was he whom God had appointed to assist Paul when the dispute arose about Gentiles (non-Jews becoming baptized Christians).
It led to a rift resulting in Paul and Barnabas meeting in Jerusalem with Peter and other leading Jews, to defend the Gentiles who professed faith in Christ and received Him as Lord..
Once and for all the matter was settled. Salvation is for all as the result of faith alone in Jesus Christ.
The apostles were convinced that "whosoever will" may repent of their sin and receive Christ.
What does this mean to us today?
It means we are to be about the Father's business, which is to make known that anyone who repents of his or her sin, and receives Jesus as Lord and Savior will be saved.
And when they do...What a joy............FOREVER!!

"Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means Son of Encouragement) sold a field he owned and brought the money and laid it at the disciple's feet." Acts 4:36
Barnabas, apparently a man of means, was a dedicated assistant to the temple priests. He became a follower of Christ and was later chosen by the apostle Paul as his companion.
On an occasion, as we read in Acts 4:36, he saw a need of the disciples of Jesus, and was led to meet that need by selling a field and giving the entire amount received to the disciples.
This act of love and generosity resulted is his name being changed from Joseph to Barnabas, which means "Son of Encouragement", which later resulted in Paul inviting him to become his traveling companion on his missionary journeys.
Never think that God does not see and know when we express a "Barnabas" attitude toward those in need, as well as the financial support of the Church and other Christ-like causes.
Only eternity will reveal the extent of the good accomplished by those who demonstrate the attitude of Barnabas, a person of encouragement.
Thank God for them.

"Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), sold a field he owned and brought the money to the apostles' feet." Acts 4:36
I have the privilege of having had friends whom I could have called sons of encouragement. I won't ever forget them.
Most likely you, too could say the same thing.
We are both much richer because of that great favor of the Lord.
Since such a thing is such a blessing and comfort, it brings up the question; "Am I an encourager?
Give some thought to this, and ponder those among your friends who right now may be experiencing a time in their lives when nothing would help them more than to be encouraged than a timely word from you.
It doesn't cost a dime to make a call, or write an e-mail, but the worth of your contact could be beyond your imagination to the person receiving it.
It's the Christ-like thing to do.
Jesus said so. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

It doesn't cost a dime to make a call, or write an e-mail, but the worth of your contact could be beyond your imagination to the person receiving it.
It's the Christ-like thing to do.
Jesus said so. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
