"Trust in the Lord, and do good, dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart." Ps. 37:3-4
Let's diagram David's words in this passage.
It is the Lord in whom we trust, that we may accomplish good things as we dwell in the land and stay faithful to Him; delighting in Him as He gives us the desires of our heart.
That is not complicated, is it?
But it is deliberate.
To experience what God has provided requires faith which has been explained as follows:
"Forsaking All I Trust Him".
"Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face. And the things of this world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace."

"And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son." John 14:13
Read this statement of Jesus and realize that it is His declaration to all whose trust is in Him to hear and act upon their request in prayer.
The earthly agenda of Jesus was to provide salvation for all separated from God by sin to become united again with Him as it had been before Adam's fall in Eden.
God is most glorified on this earth when this "unification" occurs as the result of man repenting of his sin and receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Then, as His child seeks His face in prayer it is His pleasure to respond and bring glory to His name.
Prayer is "High Priority" with God.
Never doubt this.
Just do it.
The success we experience on our feet results from the time spent on our knees with God.

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance." Ps. 33:12
Labor Day, the last "official" holiday of summer, and an appropriate time to pause to express thanks to God for His blessings upon us.
And well we should take the time to do that this year.
We are not a nation at war, but neither are we a nation of peace.
Rather, we are torn, divided, distracted and disturbed.
What can bring us together?
It is NOT what, but WHO?
Just as Psalm 33, above, reminds us, we are at a total loss to be united except through God's blessing.
It is not His will that we perish.
Therefore, what responsibility should each of us accept?
Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain to build it. So also goes America!

"And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ." Phil. 4:7
God's "built-in security system".
That is another way of describing His peace which envelopes our heart and mind when we spend time reading His Word and praying.
Some describe their time alone with God as their "Quiet Time".
Obviously you have learned the value of this as you have taken time in this present moment to turn your thoughts toward Him in a moment of quietness as you seek His face to know His will.
The apostle Paul learned this invaluable lesson very early in his ministry as he spent three years directly following his conversion alone with God in prayer and meditation. He was not idle during this time. He was being prepared and equipped for the work to which he had been called.
Even Christ knew the value of being alone with God as He slipped away to a quiet place to pray for a season.
Time alone with God.
What a thought. What a privilege!

"Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?" Heb.1:14
We do not worship angels, but to each born again child of God one has been assigned.
Think about God's marvelous provision for His child.
First, He created each of us in His own image.
Then He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take our sin upon Himself and die on the cross as the acceptable sacrifice for sin.
He then assigned an angel, as the Scripture says, "for those who will inherit salvation" by having received Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior.
Think about THAT, and soak it up to overflowing!
The Holy Spirit convicted us of sin. God sent His Son. Jesus to pay in full the debt we could not pay, indwelt us to keep us saved, as is now our Shield and Protector as long as we live on this earth.
Is that not the most perfect plan of salvation ever?

"Joseph , a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means Son of Encouragement) sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles' feet." Acts. 4:6-37
The next time we see Barnabas he was bringing Saul to the apostles. Acts 9:27
Get to know Barnabas.
As you emulate him your life will be enriched.
He was a "Hero of God".
In the Bible we learn that at the very beginning of the church in Jerusalem, Barnabas bought a field and gave it to the church that his brethren could eat.
On another day he brought Saul to the apostles with whom he shared how he had been preaching Christ in Damascus, and they accepted him and assisted in beginning his first missionary journey as Paul the Apostle.
Barnabas. One man with one plan.
To be an ENCOURAGER.
Could this also be God's plan for you?

.."receiving the end of your faith--the salvation of your souls." I Peter 1:9
It is true that Christians live by faith and not sight, but just as Peter said in the verse above, the day is coming when we will look with our eyes upon Jesus Himself .
"What a day that will be when my Jesus I will see!!"
Some sage spoke of those so heavenly minded they are no earthly good, and to the degree that those neglect the opportunity of being witnesses of Jesus there is truth.
It has been said that most rather "see" a good sermon than hear one anytime.
It's true.
Most prefer that one show, or demonstrate, his or her faith in Christ than to to be continually "preached to" about Him.
I like the way Jesus said it best of all.
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father Who is in heaven." Matt. 5:15

"..whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory." I Peter 1:8
Isn't that something?
You love Jesus even though you have never seen Him physically.
This is far more than "admiration"; an emotional thing such as one might feel for someone whose accomplishments or achievements have earned him a "good name" or reputation.
One's love for Jesus is so much more!
It is a love that defies human explanation; the kind of deep devotion resulting in a willingness to be TOTALLY COMMITTED precisely as Peter whose love for Jesus was manifested with inexpressible joy.
Perhaps a comparable way we can express this love in human terms is to compare it with the marriage vow to love "Until death do us part".
Marvelously and wondrously,as the BRIDE OF CHRIST, our love for Him is for ETERNITY..........inexpressible and full of glory!!

There has never been a book comparable with the Bible, therefore make it a point to include reading it daily.

Psalm 19 declares that the Bible is more desirable than fine gold. Proverbs declares that it is more precious than rubies. And in Psalm 119, it is declared better than coins of gold and silver.
Make a deposit of your time daily in searching its truths, and the dividends of wisdom and knowledge will surpass any endeavor you ever make to become wealthy....GUARANTEED by the Teacher, Himself, the Holy Spirit of God, the Author and Finisher of all there is to know about God.

"that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tried by fire, may be found to praise, honor and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ." I Pet. 1:7
The genuineness of your faith.
What exactly is that?
According to the apostle Peter it is whatever causes praise, honor and glory to be bestowed upon Jesus.
Take a personal test.
What about you glorifies Him?
It does not have to be a carbon copy of your brother or sister in Christ, but it does have to be genuine; the "real thing".
All are not alike, but all "alike in Christ" result in praise, honor and glory to Him..
Do your own thing.

"In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials." I Peter 1:16
Consider the date of the statement of the Apostle Peter.
He wrote in Century One.
In Century 2015, the same message would be timely to Christians.
And urgent message came through last week from a missionary and his wife who were crying out for prayer as just ten miles from their house the enemy had just killed every child of every couple who refused to bow down to a false god.
Just minutes from our house and your's every Lord's day the same enemy convinces neighbors it is not important that they keep Sunday holy by making worship their number one priority.
Satan is on a rampage, and faith in God is being sorely tried by the devices of Satan aimed to close every house of worship and eliminate every semblance of Christianity in America.
Yes, Christians are grieved by the trials of the hour, The battle rages, but victory is assured through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

"Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage." Gal. 5:1
Some publicly profess faith in Jesus Christ but lack the joy and freedom that comes from having been born again and baptized into a life of freedom from keeping the law; a thing that no one can successfully accomplish by working for it.
The day you received Jesus into your heart and were born again you became a new creature in God's sight with all your sins paid for an forgiven.
This is why the apostle Paul wrote the Christians in Galatia and told them to stand fast in the liberty that their trust in and acceptance of Christ had resulted in complete forgiveness of their sin.
Satan does not want anyone to believe this.
For that reason, Paul admonished those whom he wrote to live as new creations in Christ, and avoid becoming entangled with trying to "earn" salvation by their works.
A gift is received; not earned.
Accept God's promise that you have been purchased by His Son, and forever you are FREE!

These words, spoken by Paul, the apostle, could be well displayed at the main exit of our home as we depart daily to enter "our" world; that place where we are seen most often.
"To whom will you share a good word about Christ today?"
Perhaps you may not actually speak one word about Him, but your conduct will!.
It's a thought worth pondering.

Take a moment to encourage yourself.
See God's hand upon your life, regardless of circumstances by putting together two declarations by the apostle Paul, one in Philippians and the other in Romans, each of which conveys the same encouraging truth.
In Philippians 4:6-7 the apostle wrote, "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Then connect Paul's words as found in Roman 8:28 and be encouraged and strengthened for whatever you will, or already have encountered.
"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."
Some cynics may chose to describe this as fatalism.
I choose to describe it as FAITH.
That choice makes life "live-able" every day.

"But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it." 2 Timothy 4:17
Consider from your innermost being exactly what the apostle Paul was saying in this verse.
God had chosen him to communicate the Gospel to the Gentiles, or non-Jews, so that all would understand He desired everyone to be saved from His wrath by receiving His Son, Jesus, as their Savior and Lord.
When we read in the Bible that "God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son" we need to be reminded that He called out and set apart those such as Paul to be His spokesman to whosoever will hear and heed the call of God to forgiveness of sin and salvation of their eternal soul.
The apostle was spared from death many times, because God had determined to call and use him as His spokesman to proclaim the gospel to the whole world and not just to the chosen nation of Israel.
He is a beneficent, loving, merciful, and forgiving God, and whosoever will may be born again and saved from eternal separation from Him.
God indeed did give His only begotten Son, Jesus, to die for the sin of man and purchase his salvation on the cross.
There is no greater gift for all mankind than God's salvation.

"I will lift up my eyes to the hills---where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth." Ps. 121:1-2
Reading today's newspaper, or listening to tonight's world news could easily result in asking the same question of the psalmist, shown above.
And well it should.
Are we dependent upon God for the help we need to lead us, and keep us, on the right path that we may not miss out on being where He would have us be?
Many times He is our "last resort" which results is disappointment on our behalf for not seeking Him first.
In verse 3 of this 121st. Psalm we are reminded that "He will not let your foot slip"..
In this day of uncertainty there is no asset greater or more valuable than the assurance of God's presence and counsel.
In verse 5 of this same 121st Psalm we read, "The Lord watches over you", and in closing it is repeated again that "The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore."

"Create within me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." Ps. 51:10
One way to express the verse above would be to say, "Life lived in such a way that when people get to know me they will know the Spirit of God who resides within me."
I have a friend whose practice it has been to think immediately after awakening of putting on the whole armor of God from head to toe.
As he envisions himself dressing to stand against the enemy of the flesh; Satan, he quotes Ephesians 5:13-18 explaining how God protects him from head to foot with spiritual attire covering the most vulnerable places of the body.
No one is exempt from attack, but one filled with the Holy Spirit one has much greater hope of victory than one who does not yield his or her will to the will of God.
Being Spirit-filled is a choice; a conscious decision to permit God to be "in charge".
That's why Paul's admonition was to "PUT ON", as one puts on clothing to cover the nakedness of the flesh.
God is willing to fill whosoever will.
WE MAKE THE CHOICE TO ALLOW HIM TO DO SO.

As I join the psalmist in asking "from where does my help come?
Just where does one receive the help to live the "faithful life" of God in this twenty-first century?
And the answer comes. "I am God. I never change."
What a fantastic promise!
God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
What comfort as we realize that history will reveal to us the solution to every present situation and the answer to every question, because of the steadfast faithfulness of Jehovah God.
Therefore, whatever was right for His people in any age continues to be right for the one in which we live.
Think of and ponder the thought; "I serve an unchanging God". What a STUPENDEOUS blessing THAT WHAT WAS RIGHT THEN IS STILL THE SAME TODAY.
It's really just that simple.

"Because He loved your forefathers and chose their descendants after them, He brought you out of Egypt by His presence and His great strength to drive out before you nations greater and stronger than you to bring you into their land to give it to you for your inheritance, as it is today." Deut. 4:17-18
Notice carefully that it is God Who has Himself chosen Israel.
There is NO power great enough on this earth to change His plans for His own children.
Israel belongs to the Jews by the decree of God.
He said they will live in the land He gave them until He makes the decision that it will be somewhere else.
God's favor rests upon His people, and no matter how many devices, schemes or pacts other nations use to try to root Israel out of Israel each is doomed for failure.
God's own Word says so.
What will it take for a so-called enlightened,"educated" government to accept this truth?
It would greatly help if they believed what "thus says the Lord."
One day, they will!

Reading God's promise to Israel is like a tonic to all whose faith is in Jesus Christ.
He knows precisely the future of Israel, His Chosen People. THEY WILL SURVIVE!!
And because God says so we, too have assurance that what seems "unlikely" to some today IS ALREADY HISTORY, as far as He is concerned.
Never doubt that one day every person who has been born again will walk on the streets of Jerusalem and celebrate the beginning of eternity.
Having great memories of having walked those streets three times in my lifetime remains one of the highlights of my life.
Knowing next time I will join all others whose Savior and Hope is Jesus Christ we will celebrate the beginning of eternity together, a fact totally beyond words to describe.
The best way I know how to give you a description is to say, "Meet me there and see for yourself!"
You'll get correct directions from Jesus Who said, "I am the Way,the Truth, and the Life."

"Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits--who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's." Ps.103:1-5
In one verse David captured in words the most accurate description possible of Jehovah God.
He forgives, heals, and redeems us to satisfy the deepest longing of life; to be eternally renewed exactly as He has promised to all who desire to be citizens of heaven through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.
He truly is the all sufficient God and Father.
He so loved the world He sent His Son to not only tell us this was true, but to demonstrate it on the cross as He gave His very life in exchange for our salvation.
That's why the old Negro spiritual says, "No one ever cared for me like Jesus!"
Are you experiencing THAT life NOW?

"'Though the fig tree does not bud and and there are no grapes on the vine, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, YET I WILL REJOICE IN THE LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior." Habakkuk 3:17-18
As I copied this passage I could hear reverberating in my mind the words, 'when all fails', rejoice in the Lord.
What an attitude!!
No, not attitude.
But FAITH!
Suppose what this nation would be like if each of us could demonstrate such faith in God for just one week?
We could win this world to Christ, beginning with our own loved ones, and continuing to the ends of the earth.
It is going to happen one day when "every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord." Phil. 2:11
