11/26/15

May the presence of God accompany you throughout this day as we move through the weekend of national Thanksgiving.

May our loving and beneficent God be pleased with the prayers of thanks that come before Him during this weekend as we remember of all His blessings upon us as a nation.

Many are troubled this year and rightly so, but let us not forget that nothing ever takes God by surprise.  The troubles that surround are not beyond His control.

Already He has fortified us to move through these times by blessing us with His own personal presence through His abiding Holy Spirit who immediately came to abide within us the moment we received Christ as personal Lord and Savior.

Let us strongly affirm that He is God.  It is He Who had made us, and we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.  Draw near Him this season and be comforted.

This will be my final devotional for some time, perhaps months, due to rotator cuff surgery on Monday which will keep me from being able to type until the surgeon releases me.  Most patients my age need longer to recuperate.  I am asking God to be help me cooperate with the doctors and therapists, and to be patient in waiting until the area is restored.  Of course, I ask that you pray with me, please.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's season filled with the joy of the Lord.

As soon as possible I look forward to sharing with you again.  Thanks for your friendship.

"Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Ps. 100:2

Wanna turn some heads today?

Let the gladness of being a Child of God be evident as you move through your day with gladness in your heart that from time to time just breaks out in joyful singing.

It's contagious when done with a smile on your face and joy in your voice.

Give it a try today as you make this your way of expressing  thanks to God on the eve of Thanksgiving which officially begins the Christmas season TOMORROW!!

Help all those around you to experience the joy of this wonderful time by setting the tone through your gladness and singing.

And if they happen not to understand, what a terrific "open door" to share your love of God and your faith in Him.

As far as I know, there isn't yet a new edict that prohibits you showing your gladness and thanks by singing a song of thanks.

You might even find some others around you who will take joy and courage to join in singing with you.

Nov. 24, 2014

That we may not miss the importance of this sacred week, let's take time to review some Biblical passages familiar to most, but for those just being introduced to the Word of God, let;s help them discover why this week is so meaningful to America.

Share with them, "Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all your lands! Psalm 100:1

Not that we must shout to get God's attention, but that our excitement of being able to make this shout as we proclaim our faith in and thanks to God; a freedom still possible in a land so quickly turning from God to embrace teachings denying His very existence.

If we who believe are not careful and eager to let our trust in Him and thanks to Him be heard we will soon lose this privilege as a nation.

What a tragedy!

Wear your thanks on your sleeve.

Demonstrate your faith through your gratitude.

And include others who may not know why they should be doing so.

This week be unashamed to SAY you are thankful and give God the praise that you are!

"For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.  For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God." Rom. 8:12-13

Who's in control?

If you, according the the Bible, there's every reason to reconsider.

It says that the difference between being led by the flesh and by the Holy Spirit is life itself; abundant life now, and eternal life with God FOREVER!

This absolutely does not mean that you give up the joys and wonders of life in the present.

To the contrary, those whose lives are committed to the Lordship of Jesus are far more content and filled with peace and joy than they ever experienced without Him as their Savior and dearest Friend.

Glance back at what Paul said in the verses printed above; "if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, YOU WILL LIVE."

Yes, you do have to experience it to believe it.

But, there is no other way.

Nol. 20, 2015

"There is now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit." Romans 8:1

Let this truth from the lips of the apostle Paul saturate your heart and mind.

He told us how to live life to its fullest, BEGINNING with receiving Christ as Lord and Savior.

Then, moment by moment as we permit the Holy Spirit to be in control, or in "Lordship" of our life it becomes richer and richer.

Someone experiencing this Spirit-filled life has said that "inch by inch, it's a cinch.  Mile by mile, it's a trial".

How true.

We exist physically breath by breath and heartbeat by heartbeat.

The Spirit-filled life is the same.

Jesus took us residence in our heart the moment we received Him as Savior.

Permit Him to be Lord, and the "deal is done!"

Nov.. 19, 2015

"Now godliness with contentment is great gain.  For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out."  I Tim. 6:6

This conclusion concerning life was an expression of the Apostle Paul to his young "son in the ministry, Timothy".

The origin of Paul's statement was part of the testimony of Job who stripped of this world's goods plus his own children said,"Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will return.  The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised." Job. 1:21

Without doubt, this is more than a philosophy.

It is the truth, but not easy to swallow.

One obtains this faith only through steadfastly focusing on God with the sincere belief that all things do work together for good to those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose.

Every so often each of us needs to re-visit Job to get life in perspective.

Paul obviously did this, and the truth sustained him during many troubling times and trials.

We need a Rock to hold on to; The Rock of Ages.

"Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron."  I Tim. 4:2-3

As the First Century moved nearer a close the Holy Spirit caused Paul to write Timothy the words of the Bible shown above.

Of course there has never been a season when some have not drifted away from God.

But without reservation you and I have never lived in a time when Paul's prophetic words were more relevant than this very day.

Take a look at statistics concerning Christianity in America.

Compare the most recent 75 years to see a drift that is nearing a flood tide of diminishing numbers of professing Christians and "out of business" churches in what 75 years ago was the Bible Belt where brand new churches were under construction to accomodate increasing numbers of people.

The proof is astounding.

Is it enough to wake up the sleeping church?

"For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared for us to do." Eph. 3:10

There is no question but that the resurrection of Jesus forever completed God's plan of salvation which was ordained before the foundation of the earth.

The birth, death, resurrection, ascension of Christ, AND HIS RETURN were all a "done deals" from before the foundation of the world.  Nothing has caught God by surprise.

It is FINISHED; precisely as Jesus spoke from the cross.

Yes, He was speaking of His death, but included in His thinking was His coming again.

Our responsibility is to be aware of that "fact" and remain continually sensitive, as Christians, to the moving of His Holy Spirit in our heart.

We were created for this work.

We were equipped for it the day of our salvation when we were enabled through the indwelling Holy Spirit to accomplish what God has planned for us to do.

We, like Jesus, must be about our Father's "business".

"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go.  I will counsel you with My loving eye on you." Ps. 32:8

Former President Ronald Reagan is quoted in a book written about his life to have said, "Within the covers of the Bible are the answers for all troubles man faces."

From his biography one can see that not always did the former president fully understand this truth. But after becoming the country's most powerful leader he soon realized how true were his very own words as more and more he depended upon God for wisdom to lead America, as well as to sustain himself in times of great personal stress and need for wisdom beyond his ability.

Today, let us pray that his tribe may increase as America drifts farther and farther away from the Word of God into a nation rapidly approaching spiritual deadness for lack of knowledge of what God has said.

When all else fails, the Bible will still be unchanged.

Count on it

"The B.I.B.L.E, yes, that's the Book for me.

I stand alone on the Word of God; the B.I.B.L.E!"

"I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint."  Jer. 31:25

"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you, the Lord turn is face toward you and give you peace." Lev. 6:25-26

In my youth a pastor dismissed our congregation with the benediction which was given by God Himself to Moses with instructions to Aaron and his sons to pass on as they pronounced the blessing upon the Israelites.

Today, I'd like to share with you the very same blessing in great hope that you will be blessed with thoughts of God's love for you as one of His children.

Satan has meddled and "mudded" things far too long.

It is time to reclaim God's blessings and move forward in the strength of knowing He has not deserted us, but is calling us back to Himself that we may stand, and when we have stood as long as we can to call on Him for renewal.

He is God....and always will be.

Go....and have a blessed day.

"Not by might, nor by power, but by My spirit, says the Lord".  Zech. 4:6

In the midst of all that is "out of sorts" in this day and time what comfort it is to know that God is still in control.

The incessant attacks upon all that is holy and sacred would drive one into despondency except for the FACT that both history and the Word of God prove that in the end God rules.

It is surely not a laughing matter; the way man has defied Holy God these days.

But those who trust is in Him can take heart in knowing He has NEVER yet been overcome by evil.

HE NEVER WILL BE!

Check it out again.

NOT BY MIGHT, NOR BY POWER, BUT BY MY SPIRIT, SAYS THE LORD!

"For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen but what is unseen.  For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."  2 Cor. 4:17-18

What Paul the apostle wrote is not "jibberish", but the whole truth.

He was assuring us that "we can make it" in this life by embracing Christianity through our personal acceptance of Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior.

Life is not a "cinch".

There are multiplied glitches.

But God knew this.

That is why, from before the foundation of the world, His plan was to send His only Son, Jesus, to remove the confusion and make His Father's way plain by giving His own life on the cross and rising victorious over death, Hell and the grave in resurrection power.

It is not a myth.

Instead, it is the truth, and personally receiving Christ as Savior guarantees your eternal life in heaven.  Do not complicate what He made so plain when He and rose again to life to prove that God is greater than death and to give eternal life to whosoever will accept it.

"Do not love the world or anything in the world.  The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever."  I Jh. 2:15, 17

In this brief passage is revealed the key to life everlasting with God.

Summed up it is "doing the will of God."

The Bible tells us it is not His will that any should perish, but that all have eternal life.

This is why He sent His only Son; to give His life as a sacrifice for our sin, that we may be cleared of all guilt as our sin that is washed away in His own blood as our name is written down in heaven.

It is a complete transaction all provided by God Who so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, to die as the "Just" for the "unjust"; you and me.

God's plan of salvation is perfect, therefore complete.

We have one responsibility.

To believe what He has said and prove it by turning from our sin and receiving Christ as our Savior and Lord.

Do not complicate His perfect plan.  Just accept it!

Nov. 9, 2015

"Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but for the interests of others."  Phil. 2:4

Paul was not encouraging "busy-bodiness".

Each is entitled to his or her own private interests and desires.

Instead, the man of God was expressing compassion one for the other.

This is what brotherly love is about; when one willingly sacrifices in order to meet another's need.

This is what Jesus did when He gave His life on the cross to satisfy God's requirement for a perfect sacrifice to obtain forgiveness and eternal life in heaven.

Few are called on to make the ultimate sacrifice, but each of us does face the possibility of laying aside our own interest in the best interest of a friend in need.

As we rapidly approach the season of Thanksgiving and Christmas, the door of opportunity may open for you to experience sacrifice by giving that needs of others may be met.

Do it as unto the Lord.

"Do not love the world or anything in the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever."  I Jh. 2:15,17

Few are the things said that have ever been more clearly understandable than these words spoken by the Apostle John.

Why would any logical person place his trust and confidence in something guaranteed not to last?

But it occurs every time anyone rejects Jesus Christ and chooses anything offered by this world as security for his future.

As clearly as He could state it the Holy Spirit spoke through John, the "disciple of love" who said that this world and all its desires will one day be no more, but that those who seek to live according to the will of God will live forever.

Yes, you can take the Bible literally.

Not to do so is foolishness.

Do a personal inventory.

What of that in which you are invested will remain when death occurs or Jesus returns?

Nov. 5.2015

"The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace." Rom. 8:6

Get a grip on the fact that Jesus came to change man's destiny; the ONLY PERSON who has this power.

The writer of Hebrews said in chapter 9:27 that man was destined to die once and then face judgment.

The sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross changed all that and made eternal LIFE man's gift as in His resurrection He overcame death, Hell and the grave.

As we move toward Christmas, let us pause during this Thanksgiving Season  to praise and thank God for turning eternal death into eternal life and committing ourself to share this good news with each unsaved friend we have.

The most meaningful thanks we can give God is to extend a loving hand to friends who do not know Christ personally and assist them in discovering Him in time to truly celebrate this coming Christmas as the best they have ever known!

To accomplish this,"set your mind" on Him.

He will lead you the rest of the way.

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God; that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know He hears us--whatever we ask we know that we will have what we asked of Him." I Jh. 5:15

About what are you praying?

Without doubt are you certain your petition is according to God's will?

Nothing is more important concerning the fulfillment of your request than knowing that the answer will also result in honor to God.

In the Model prayer note carefully that Jesus taught his disciples to prayer; Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."

Will God's response to my prayer bring honor to Him?

That's the question.

Settle this matter first.

Then pray with all your heart, and with absolute confidence that it will come to pass in His time.

"Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season, we shall reap, if we do not lose heart." Gal. 6:9

Yes, you are right. You read the same Scripture yesterday as today, and the reason has to do with a memory of one of the dearest and most compassionate friends my wife and our family ever knew.

I thought of her immediately when recently I read an account of the baptism of a man who at age 15 heard the sermon of an evangelist who had chosen I Corinthians 16:22 as his text; If anyone does not love the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed, O Lord come."

It took 85 years for the spoken word to bear fruit in this man's life, but it did as he was baptized at age 100.

Do not be dismayed if you feel that your witness for Christ does not result in an immediate response from the one with whom you have shared it.

It took 85 years for the fifteen year old to realize he needed to follow through on the message of the evangelist, but he did.

"Due season".

Only God knows how long that may be.

But He does!

Monday, November 2, 2015

Nov. 2, 2015

"Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lost heart." Gal. 6:9

We way may be in that "due season" spoken of by Paul in this word of encouragement to the church in Galatia.

As statistics reveal rapidly decreasing attendance and financial support through entire denominations it would be tempting to "throw in the towel" and consider all that has been accomplished in the past as a "lost cause".

But not so!!

In our lifetime there has not been a greater time to be faithful and loyal to God and let our lights so shine before men that they may see our good works....AND GLORIFY THE FATHER WHO IS IN HEAVEN.

Good works do not amount to the proverbial "Hill of Beans" UNLESS God is glorified anyway.

So, do not be discouraged.

The darker the world the brighter the light of Christianity, provided we who are named by His name remain faithful.

Stay the course.  Stand up, stand up for JESUS!

"Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord." 2 Pet. 1:12

These were the words of Peter salutation to those who had placed their faith in Christ.

What a meaningful prayer; that those who had been born again through faith in Him could not only anticipate, but also experience the joy of personally knowing God through His indwelling in the person of the Holy Spirit living in their heart.

The residence of Him in your heart guarantees this!

As you go through this day, do not fail to celebrate this truth.

It is a fact....attested to by the living Word of God.

Do not discount the fact that

YOU ARE SOMEBODY;

A CHILD OF GOD!

October 29

"Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you."  1 Pet. 4:7

On whom else than God can you cast every anxious thought with the assurance that it will be totally understood?

The gospel song that has endured through the years, because of its truth, is that God is a Personal Savior.

We've sung these words in church and planted them in our heart, because we realize that life sometimes becomes a place where we have never walked before.

At that time we need to count on someone who has preceded us and left us with the reminder that truly our God is with us.each step of the way.

If you have yet to enter this place, you can count on the fact that somewhere along the way you will.

It is at that time that Peter had in mind when he reminded us in the verse, above, to cast all our cares upon Him, because He cares for us.

Because you are traveling the road called "life" you will one day need to remember this.

Plant it in your heart and treasure it on the day it becomes a need.

Oct. 27, 2015

"Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but for the interests of others." Phil. 2:4

The apostle Paul was in no way encouraging any brother or sister in the Lord to become meddlesome in the affairs of others.

But he surely was asking each of us to consider what we could have one for another that would have profited him or her and made their day more blessed.

Whose soul has been lifted and life made a little better because of the genuine interest shown by you for them?

It may take a moment of time to place that call, write that note, or perhaps drop in for that cup of coffee, but if it results in someone's burdened being lifted or heart encouraged, it will be well worth the time and effort.

We do have a word from the Bible concerning this that we call the Golden Rule; "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

It really works.

Try it and see.

Oct. 25, 2015

"....so that in everything He might have the preeminence (supremacy)." Col. 1:18b

Is Jesus SUPREME in your life?

Or, to put it another way, is He LORD?

You may think it's just a "play on words", but far from it.

When Jesus is LORD, there is no question but that He is Savior.

The difference is known by how greatly He is in control of your being.

Is He the last word; the final AUTHORITY in your decisions?

It make all the difference in the choices one makes, and most of all in the peace you have in your heart THAT YOUR WALK IS PLEASING TO HIM.

Some may choose to call this a "clear conscience",

And that is fine....-IF- Jesus is LORD.

ONLY you know.

Oct. 22, 2015

"Praise be to the Lord, our God, our Savior, Who daily bears our burdens." Ps. 68:19

How do those who do not have a personal relationship with God manage the complexities of life?

One of the great comforts of knowing Him personally through Jesus Christ, and the indwelling Holy Spirit, is being able to cast on Him the cares of life knowing that all things are going to ultimately work out well because He is in control.

That's because He is our personal Savior.

As David said in the verse above, it is He who bears our burdens.

And it does not matter what the burden may be, nor the shape or form in which it may come.

One of most freeing choices we can make is to allow Jesus to be Lord of our life.

He accepts that responsibility the instant we invite Him to take control and guide our daily steps and decisions that come with the territory.

Here's the promise,  "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shalll be added unto you."  Matt. 6:33

That's "all-inclusive".

"My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.  He will not let your foot slip--He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you--the Lord is your shade at your right hand." Ps. 121:2-4

I read something that caught my attention.

It said, "God works the night shift".

Psalm 21 agrees, as you see above.

Sometimes it might as well be high noon instead of midnight on those occasional nights when sleep just will not come.

It's so comforting to know when those nights come that God is wide awake with me, but more than that, He is watching over me.

Tonight, regardless of how it goes with your sleep, just remember that God is also wide awake.

Perhaps.... that's why you are.

He just may need to have an audience with you.

Make sure you listen.

"For our light and momentary things are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.  For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Cor. 4:17-18

A 'fix' each night on the six o'clock news is not a sin, but it can become a hindrance to seeing what lies beyond the news; the plans of God for this world and all in it who believe and trust in Him for life beyond this moment in history.

It is not necessary to be a scholar of the Bible to realize that a power far greater than man rules the universe.

That "unseen" power is God.

There's never been a time when He was not.

There never will be.

That's why He's called eternal.

Whatever we've seen of His existence here is as nothing compared to what shall be seen of Him eternal.

October 19, 2015

"The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace."Rom. 8:6

Can you understand just a bit better why so much of mankind today is focused on death as you read what the Apostle Paul wrote in the brief verse shown above?

Tonight as the TV news unfolds so much of it will report war, murder, suicide and carnage caused by one group at war with another.

This is because the Prince of Peace is either completely rejected or perhaps unknown by a majority of mankind today.

He cannot grasp a life of love and peace, because he has never known the one true God and His Son, Jesus Christ.

Sinful man's roots are deep in the son of Adam known as Cain who rose up and killed his very own brother all because of jealousy and envy.  His mind was filled with death.

And so goes it today for all who follow in his steps.

Pause.  Thank God you know better.

All because of John 3:16.  Think about this, and praise God that you do.

Oct. 16, 2015

"Cast your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you."  I Peter 4:7

Is there a better reason for casting all your anxiety on God than that His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He cares for me?

The lyrics of the old Gospel song, "He's my personal Savior", came to mind when I pondered the question.

Since His eye is on the sparrow, I know He cares for me.

He IS just that personal.

He gave his life for me, and I know that one day He is coming back to take me home to heaven.

WHAT A THOUGHT!!

Your's, too to claim when you know He also lives in your heart, too.

What a thought ABSOLUTELY!!!

Oct. 15/15

"Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but for the interests of others."  Phil. 2:4

At the end of the day who has profited because you cared?

Whose need has been met?

Whose burden has been lifted?

Whose heart had been lightened?

Whose soul has been encouraged.....

all because you cared?

I'm reasonably certain these may not have been the same things Paul had in mind as he wrote Philippians 2:4.

But they could have been!

Oct. 14 2015

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.  It is the Lord you are serving." Col. 3:23-24

Me, in sacred work?

That surely appears to be how the Holy Spirit meant for Paul to write these words to the people of Colosse.

Notice that he said specifically, "It is the Lord you are serving."

Kind of puts a new perspective on your work, doesn't it?

But that's great, because we know that nothing we ever do that honors Him will be a waste of time or strength.

Here in the middle of October, in the middle of the week, is a good time to realize you are right in the midst of working for the Lord.

Somewhat challenges you to do your best, doesn't it?

"If anyone is ashamed of Me and of My words in this adulterous generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His Father's glory with the Holy Angels."  Mk. 8:38

Ashamed of Jesus?

Who?

It's a good question.

The answer is far from being pleasing to God even in the "BIBLE BELT".

It is just about impossible to miss seeing this when comparing the number of cars at the shopping mall or sporting complex compared to the number parked around the churches.

Does God notice this?

What do you think?

I checked, and yes, it is still there, "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy." Ex. 20:8

Oct. 12. 2015

"Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom."  2 Cor. 3:17b

You know the difference!

Where God's presence is, there is a definite atmosphere.

And this "presence" is not limited just to a religious gathering.

One can be totally alone and know HE is there.

Perhaps it is most often in that kind of solitude when you have sensed His presence; that still, small voice that whispers in your mind.

As Paul said in the Scripture verse, above, it is most often in this very Quiet Times that one senses God's presence and the genuine desire to worship Him.

Once you experience this, you long for it again.

"Breathe on me, breathe on me, Holy Spirit breathe on me.  Take thou my heart, cleanse every part, Holy Spirit, breathe on me."  (Edwin Hatch  1835-1889)

"You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in the Lord forever."Isa. 26:3

The state of "perfect peace".

Heaven is surely such a place.

So was Eden one day.

Everything in harmony with God.

What a thought.

And the reality of it is absolutely obtainable today.

Yes, even in this world.

Jesus Christ as Lord in one's life is the way.

He said said so, "I am the way, the truth, and the life".  John 14:6

Oct.8,2015

"If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all." Isa. 7:9b

What a thought for our day!

Statistics showing diminishing numbers from mainline Christian denominations is a sad but true reflection of Christianity in America in this twenty-first century.

We can pretend it is not so, but those "statistical facts" reveal the contrary.

Isaiah's words reveal the reason behind the decreasing numbers of congregations, churches, even entire denominations.

America no longer stands firm in her faith.

And the dire consequences will usher in a time, and much sooner than expected, when America no longer stands at all for the faith of our fathers.

No one likes "gloom and doom",

But God has spoken.

Let Him be heard.

In your heart, and in your home.

"In the last days the mountain of the Lord's temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it.   Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. Isa. 2:1, 4c

Of course this is prophecy yet to be fulfilled, but it is the Word of God, and it shall be fulfilled.

From this Old Testament prophecy written by Isaiah seven hundred years before Christ we look right into the future when, thank God, ALL nations on earth will acknowledge and worship Him.

Be encouraged with these words of God spoken through His prophet Isaiah.

In this day when the Bible is disdained, neglected, and many times totally rejected it is good to focus on "the rest of the story" and know that Jehovah will be God, and Christ will rule.

IT IS WRITTEN.

It will come to pass.

Believe it....

and as proof that you do... receive it by making Christ Lord....

THE ONLY WAY to eternity with God.

"I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go. and I will bring you back to this land.  I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you." Gen. 28:15

SAID....

DONE!!

Jews and Christians will not be overcome by Satan.

That is precisely how to read this promise of God.

What a comfort to know that regardless of the boasts and threats that leap from the lips of endless tyrants, God has already declared them absolutely defeated.   He, and those whom He has chosen will overcome Satan regardless of whom he has duped and coerced to be his spokesmen.

Jews and Christians will not succumb to Satan.

Take heart!

Paul wrote, "No.  I am convinced that neither death or life, nor angels or demons, neither the present or the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor ANYTHING ELSE in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.   Rom. 8:38

"Stand up, stand up for Jesus, ye soldiers of the cross; Lift high His royal banner; it must not suffer loss.  From victory unto victory His army SHALL HE LEAD, till every foe is vanquished and Christ is Lord indeed."  George Duffield, Jr.

Oct. 5, 2015"

"Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He will strengthen your heart; Wait, I say on the Lord!" Ps. 27:14

What a promise; that from God Himself  one will receive strength.

When I was a child there was a common saying; "Weight broke the wagon down."

I now realize that the word my "advisors" were giving me was not the same one David had in mind when he wrote the twenty-seventh Psalm.

No one ever 'out-waits' God.

We can put our trust, or confidence, in Him continually with full assurance that our wait, no
matter how long, will bring forth the best results.

I confess I have not always remembered this, but at the same time I certainly confess I wish I had.

David was right when he wrote this Psalm.

Waiting is not easy.  It takes faith, and it takes courage, but the more it is practiced the stronger becomes our faith.

That's worth the wait!

"Examine me. O Lord, and prove me; Try my mind and my heart."  Ps. 26;2

What a request!!!!!!!!

David beseeching God to examine him, both mind and heart.

What a thought; that one's desire to be in right relationship with God would cause him to ask God to give him His personal examination to check out his spiritual condition, both mind and heart.

But what more perfect way to know exactly how one stands with God than to ask Him to "exmaine" his heart mind, soul, and spirit; the whole 'nine yards'?

It takes both faith and courage to make such a request, but what better way to know that our ways are the ways of the Lord, and that because this is true He is guarding our steps day by day.....because we asked Him to do so.

That's the picture of one whose mind is stayed on God.

I am reminded of the hymn, "When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word, what a joy He sheds on our way.  As we do His good will, He abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey.." (John H. Sammis)

Sept.30,15

adding it up.. (day 3)

Day by day we're looking at 2 Peter 1:5-7 to see one's evidence of salvation.

It's Christ ONLY, but once He is received by faith, then comes virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, Godliness, brotherly kindness, and brotherly love.

We've looked at faith and virtue.

What about knowledge?

Genesis 4:1 reveals that Adam "KNEW" Eve  (intimately); AS ONE.

When the Holy Spirit indwells us we become one (intimate) with God.

That provides us knowledge leading to SELF---UNDER HIS CONTROL!

GOD'S PLAN!

ISN'T IT GRAND?

(And we've only seen the "half" of it as you will see in the next devotional tomorrow.)

Sept. 29-15

Growing in Christ. 2 Peter 1:5

".......adding to your faith, virtue..

What is virtue?

Simply, it is moral goodness.

The most obvious thing about natural man is his inability to consistently live morally.

From where does this 'lack' come?

Straight from Adam.

He proved that natural man is incapable of consistent moral goodness.

"Once born man" lacks what it takes to add virtue.

It cannot dwell in one's heart- until Christ is Lord.

Moral Goodness?

One Source ONLY.

Oct. 28,2015

"Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim You,who walk in the light of your presence, O LORD." Psa. 89:15

It is has been my privilege to know several men and women whose lives have been so touched by the Lord that they were transformed and became blessings to all who had the privilege of knowing them personally.

Two such persons known by me was a man who was a gifted Bible scholar/teacher/evangelist, and the other a committed missionary for many years in what is now a Communist country, but with large pockets of committed Christians whose parents were touched by the goodness and kindness of this precious lady.

What made each of these friends "Special" to me was their humility, their faith in Christ, and their willing eagerness to share what they had received with as many people as they could.

The man about whom I write invested many hours in my life as a young pastor.  The woman was used of the Lord to somewhat crown the latter days of my ministry by allowing me to see personally a totally committed life to Christ.

I thank God as I acclaim these two with joy and thanksgiving.

I hope such a one has touched your life, too.

Perhaps... you may be just that person to someone known to you.

September 28, 2015

"Add to your faith.."  2 Peter 1:5

Maturing in your Christian walk.

(Over the next few days let's do precisely that)

What a thought!

If this was not God's will for His child He would not have given us the directions to obtain it.

Faith is the first thing.

F-A-I-T-H

"Forsaking all I take HIM (Christ)."

That is precisely the meaning of Matthew 6:33 which says, "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you."

No one can add to his or her faith in God until the deliberate choice is made to receive Christ as personal Lord and Savior.

Settle this today.  Then, let' walk together adding to our faith this week.

Over the next few days, let's check this out directly from the Bible from 2 Peter I:5-7

Friday, September 25, 2015

Oct. 29-2015

"I have set the Lord always before me.  Because He is at my right hand, will not be shaken." Ps. 16:17

As I thought about this verse, another also came through; "Seek First the Kingdom of God and His righteousness".

Few, if any, have been the times when God has not revealed His will when that was the priority of one's prayer request.

He is a jealous God.

He meant it when He said "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me."

It is amazing how long some have pondered and longed to know the mind and will of God, when He has plainly shown through His Word how eager He is to give us leadership and counsel when we make His will our priority.

Why is this?

Because God is love.

He loves us too much to hold His will from our mind and heart.

Seek Him FIRST, and you will see how true this really is.

September 25, 2015

"...sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is within you with meekness and fear..." I Peter 3:15

More than any other time in United States history the words of God uttered by Peter are true today.

Never has the Word of God been under greater scrutiny and obvious attack that this hour.

How best can one defend it?

Of course, the obvious answer is by "Living by it".

But having the answer why you are is next highest in importance.

Paul wrote Timothy and told him to study to show himself approved unto God as a worker not ashamed of his faith in Christ.

For Americans that is one of the best pieces of advice to heed in this twenty-first century.

What says God?

Five minutes hearing from Him is worth more than an hour with the up-to-the-minute news.

September 24, 2015

"And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one's work, conduct yourselves through the time of your stay here in fear." I Pet. 1:17

It is very true that "once saved, always saved".

It's also for certain we will be tempted by Satan.

Salvation is by God's grace demonstrated through the giving of His Only Son, Jesus Christ as the acceptable sacrifice for our sin.

At the moment of our salvation we were indwelt by the Holy Spirit to enable us to do the works that please God.

It's not an uncommon experience for a Christian to be tempted.

Even Jesus was.

What should be common is calling on God when we are.

It's solid proof of our salvation that even Satan cannot deny.

September 24, 2015

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead." I Peter. 1:3

Without a doubt...

We are born in sin.

But praise God the death and resurrection of His Son provides the hope you and I need as we receive Him as personal Lord and Savior by placing our faith and trust in Him.

What cost God the sacrifice of His only Son has been offered freely to us by faith.

We believe, we receive.

Jesus paid it all.

All to Him I owe.

Ask Him today to forgive your sin. Invite Him to come into your heart and be your Savior and Lord.

Do not complicate what God has made so clear.

September 23, 2015

"Be imitators of God, therefore as dearly beloved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." Eph. 5:1-2

AN IMITATOR OF GOD?

NOT Satanically, as did Lucifer, that rebelling angel.

But as a born again Child of God filled with the Holy Spirit.as the Apostle Paul taught the saints at Ephesus.

Perhaps you were taught by Christian parents the words of Jesus; "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father Who is in heaven." Mt. 5:16

That was the beginning of becoming a "Christ Imitator".

It's still a most effective way of evangelism.

Without words it resounds with the truth that God is Love.

"For God so love the world He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."

IMITATING GOD THROUGH JESUS CHRIST IN THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

September 22, 2015

"Those who live according to their sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their mind set on what the Spirit desires."  Rom. 8:5

Our flesh will be tempted.

What results when temptations assail you?

Here is the answer to those who truly desire to know the "spiritual state of their soul"

The power to escape the snare of Satan is God's gift; His indwelling Holy Spirit.

Jesus was tempted in ALL points, just as we.

But He overcame because He lived His human, fleshly life by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit.

In Gethsemane He sweat great drops of blood because the Temper was ferocious, exactly as when He was on the mountain alone with him right after His baptism.  TEMPTED IN ALL POINTS, just as we,  Yet, without sin, because His mind was set to honor God.

This is no secret.  It is the truth revealed to all who desire to live the victorious life of Christ.

"....be filled with the Spirit." Eph. 5:18a

SEPTEMBER 21, 2015

"All flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away, But the word of the Lord endures forever"  I Peter 1:24

If you want to see the true picture of yourself, take time to meditate on the words of Peter in the verse, above.

Each and everyone of us, no matter our "status" in life right are now determining how much we will count after we depart.

Only what we make of life for the glory of God will endure.

Even if we accomplish much, only that resulting in glorifying God will last far beyond the date of our passing.

It's worth thinking about, isn't it?

"Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you?"  (Yes, even when we are departed.)

Today is a very good time to begin to prepare for how we will be remembered.

What a thought!  Glorifying Christ till He comes again.....whenever!!

September 18, 2015"

"And let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He Who has promised is faithful." Heb. 10:23

If only a lowly penny you most likely have something tangible in your pocket or purse that reminds you "In God We Trust".

Those words have been emblazoned on our nation's coins and currency for all our lives.

They are, indeed, a confession of our faith in Him Who is our Creator and sustainer of life.

As the writer of Hebrews declared "HE IS FAITHFUL"

Imagine the difference between America's faith being in Jehovah God and His Son, Jesus Christ, and the way it is divided and confused by Satan today.

One day we won't have to imagine.

It is certain that He will reign and He will rule.

We do not have to wait from His return.

This Sunday would be a good day to make sure you won't he left behind when He comes.

C.U.N. church!

September 17, 2015

"For we walk by faith, not by sight." 2 Cor. 5:7 "..... without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." Heb. 11:6

Lifting the darkness that covers America in this twenty-first century we discover why the church is shrinking in size and influence from top to bottom.

America lacks faith GREATLY.

It has happened so quickly.

Less than 2 and a half centuries of history show a continually diminishing number of Americans committed to God and supporting the church with their, prayers, attendance or finances.

Much accusation is aimed at our elected leaders.  WHO ELECTED THEM?

"Blessed is the nation whose Lord is God"!

The problem lies right here...individually.

We are the answer, one by one.

"If it is to be, it is to me."

September 16, 2015

"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good of bad." 2 Cor. 5:10

"Inventory time", another way of describing how things will be when this life is done and every one gives a personal account of his or her life on this earth.

The tiny word "all" makes it clear that each of us will personally stand before the Lord to give a first hand, personal report about ourself.

What a thought!

But an even greater one is this.  We know this is absolutely going to happen, and by God's grace He has prepared us to stand for that "inspection" hearing the words "Well Done" by having used these days to glorify His Son through our living.

No surprises with God.

He has told us how things will be and has provided that we may give an acceptable report by having sent His Son to die for our sin that we may be forgiven our sin and filled with the Holy Spirit..... indwelt and empowered by Him living in our heart.

He is the ALL SUFFICIENT ONE.

September 15, 2015

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."  2 Tim. 3:16-17

Should ever you have wondered what value daily reading of the Bible may have, the words above written by Timothy should encourage you.

Doctrine opens for one the very mind of God to explain more clearly what the Holy Spirit wrote through the hands and minds of 40 different people whose thoughts and writings are found in both the Old and New Testaments of the Holy Bible, the very mind of God.

Those words convict.  They correctly express the truths God knew we needed to abide by and experience, or live by, in order to experience the abundant life He sent His Son to fulfill in His flesh.

Sometimes these words sting as they clearly reveal needed changes in our life, but they also encourage as we discover we are living in harmony with the mind and will of our heavenly Who created us in His own image and then sent His own Spirit to reside within our hearts to lead us to walk on paths that honor and bless Him as they draw others to faith in Him through His Son, Jesus.

All need food for life and sustenance.

Likewise for the Bread of Life; God's Holy Bible.

Study it to show yourself approved unto God.

Sept. 14,2015

"For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things having promise of the life that now is and that which is to come."  I Tim. 4:8

That walk, bike ride, or visit to the spa is acceptable to God.  He has no problem with us keeping the tabernacle that houses His Holy Spirit physically fit.

But He especially reminds us that the benefits of keeping the tabernacle; that houses His Holy Spirit is of even greater value.

It is that part of us that provides an acceptable dwelling place for God to dwell within us.

And all who this know the difference the Spirit makes as He teaches, guides, blesses and uses us as we move through these years on earth.

If you pondered or meditated for a season on the difference between being filled with the Holy Spirit and not, you would agree there is no comparison between the two.

This is why the Bible instructs us to be continually being filled by Him.

Since God said we should.

WE SHOULD.

Enough said!

Sept. 11, 2015

"For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is yet to come."  I Tim. 4:3

We live in a day when physical fitness is much emphasized, and for good reason.  God has ordained the human body to house the Spirit of God once that person receives Christ and is born again as a brand new being.

We ought to take heed to take care of our bodies, but with the continual thought in mind that there is just so much one can do to reach maximum advantages.

The Spiritual body can never over exceed the desire and plan of God to be filled, even to overflowing, which is when blessings truly come not only to the individual, but through them to those with whom he or she associates.

This is because the indwelling Holy Spirit eagerly desires to reach out through us to embrace any and all who desire to know God more intimately.

God has chosen those whom He has redeemed to be His witnesses to whomsover has not experienced His love.

What a thought; that God desires to take your life to the highest as you share your faith in Christ through your occupation, hobbies, and friendships with those who do not know Him as Savior.

September 10, 2015

"The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect.  Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,The people He has chosen as His own inheritance."  Ps. 33:11,13

What about these two verses do we not understand?

24-7 the news carries proof that what God has said is true.

All the counsels of all the nations of the world amount to nothing unless founded upon His unalterable Word; the Holy Bible.

But even in America, "one nation under God", the scarcity of the hearing of the Word of God is clearly obvious.

Jesus said, "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you".

Apparently "someone" has stolen or confined His teaching to the extent that they are spoken almost exclusively in a cloistered setting called a church limited to the hearing of few; seldom more than once a week, unless a  loved one dies, or a tragedy strikes.

The truth hurts.

But heeding it can also set you free!!

"Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage; And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!" Ps. 27:14

You just read what is perhaps the most difficult thing for the average person to do.

But the truth of the matter is that this is the wisest decision anyone makes.

"Expeditious" is the word.

It means acting with speed efficiently....by waiting.

The perfect way to do this is to "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness"

No one can make a wiser decision.

Waiting on God is the fastest solution to your problem.

If it sounds confusing.....it ISN'T.

Just trust God and see.

In Twenty-first Century America you won't find many doing this.  But we'd accomplish much more if we did.  Even the "lowly penny" proclaims "In God We Trust".

October 1, 2015

"But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love."  2 Peter 2:5-7

Previously, this week we've endeavored to understand God's "all sufficient" grace by looking to see its component parts as presented by the apostle Peter.

Faith has "roots"; each reaching out to enlarge our capacity to become mature as growing believers in Christ.  The root; faith in Christ with the "vine" consisting of 7 characteristics seen in Peter's words.  We have looked already at virtue, knowledge.Faith,

Let's examine perseverance, godliness, kindness and brotherly love.

To persevere requires "patience".  Understood without doubt, but to obtain it, we need Christ as Lord for surely patience is of His grace only.

Perhaps you have heard the phrase, "the patience of Job".  That's it; the exact thing needed to remain consistent in our walk with God.

"Godliness"  God, obviously the source. Seek His kingdom first, above self, and what will result is brotherly kindness and love.

How do these things manifest themselves in us?

According to Jesus  we should "Seek first the kingdom of God".  Then, live it by "Doing unto others as you would have them do unto you."

A clearer explanation of what Jesus meant?

Most likely.  But this one is pretty good for starters, wouldn't you say?

September 8, 2015

"I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living."  Ps. 27:12

Can you scarcely believe the timeliness of the promises of God!!

In so many ways Satan has done everything possible to turn America totally against God in unbelief and doubt right in these very days we are living.

But instead of losing heart....TAKE IT to the very max in faith, knowing that all things work for good for those who fear God and conduct their lives according to His Word.

How can one be assured and certain of being in the will of God?

The lyrics of an old hymn explain this so clearly as they say, "Have thine own way, Lord! Have thine own way.  Thou art the potter, I am the clay!  Mold me and make me after Thy will, while I am waiting, Yielded and still.? (Adelaide A. Pollard)

It's a "tall order", but it's the certain way to have peace with God in this time of godlessness.

Instead of losing heart, seek the heart of God.

And you will discover Him.....guaranteed!

"But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." Heb. 11:8

Think about that statement.

It makes a promise based upon a mandatory requirement.

One MUST believe that Jehovah ONLY is God.

In light of much of the current news, many do not know this God, the "Giver of Life".

Death drives those who defy Jehovah.

Eternal life drives those who know and worship Him.

It takes faith to do this.

Faith in Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior that defies death and accepts God's promise of

abundant life here...on our way there for eternity!!.

September 4, 3015

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance." Ps. 33:12

God in incapable of lying, therefore when the Holy Spirit has moved to declare that a nation that chooses to permit Him to be Lord will be blessed, it will be so!

In her beginning the United States of America had leaders unashamed to proclaim that she was and would continue to be "One Nation Under God".

History cannot truthfully dispute the fact that no nation has been so singularly blessed.

But lest we forget, Israel, "the apple of God's eye", turned away from God, and every time she did she suffered.

Indeed, the Bible reveals a coming day when Israel's glory will be restored as she repents and returns to God to overcome all foes.

That picture does not appear in the Bible for America.  And that is tragic!

It is time for repentance, beginning in the upper echelons of this nation where all can see.

Pray that it may happen with understanding that it is not God's will that any should perish.

"...Jesus said, 'If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." John 8:31

.Something you need to cling to is what you just read as a quote directly from Jesus Himself.

All across the land there are many deceivers posing as followers of Christ, but who insist that it is necessary that they adhere to the teachings of someone other than He as their final authority.

How sad, because when God said it.....That settled it!.

If anyone tries to convince you of the need to add to the Bible their own personal interpretation, or that of their 'leader', send them away the same way they came with the warning that they have added to or taken away from the Bible AND SUBSTITUTED their "doctrine", which is no doctrine at all, but the lies of Satan whose agenda continues to be deception and lies concerning God and His only Son, Jesus Christ.

Look again at the verse, above.

In truth Jesus said, 'Only those who hold to My teaching are really my disciples".  You do not need another's explanation or commentary to know the mind and will of God.  Christ's death and resurrection forever provided for man's salvation.  He is the last Word.  Hear and heed Him ONLY.

"The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save.  He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing." Zephaniah 3:17

THAT IS WORTH RE-READING.

It is no surprise that God is with us.

For certain He has been with you since the moment you confessed and repented of your sin and invited Jesus to come live within you as your personal Lord and Savior.

But it is so good to just sit and soak in that truth every so often, especially in these days when denying God has become prevalent among the majority.

What is more comforting than to come to grips with the Biblical fact that the moment of one's salvation the Holy Spirit comes to live within to guarantee our salvation and our transport to heaven the day Jesus returns for all who have received Him as Savior and Lord.

With that in mind, take time to gratefully acknowledge the Holy Spirit's admonition from Psalm 46:10-11 "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!  The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge."

"Blessed in the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited and redeemed His people, and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of His servant David." Luke 1:68-69

These were the words of Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist upon the occasion of his birth.

Elizabeth, the wife of Zacharias, well beyond the time of bearing children, and Mary, a virgin, each was used by God in bringing His sinless Son into the world to become the acceptable sacrifice you and I required in order that we may be born again to become children of God.

Never doubt the power of God to accomplish His will.

With Him NOTHING is impossible!

Keep reminding yourself of this fact in these days when evil seems to have overcome mankind, and the hope of salvation is precarious.

Jehovah has a plan of salvation that none can alter.

Your faith in Christ results in your second birth and God's guarantee of the forgiveness of your sin and eternal life with Him.

The greatest and grandest decision ever made by anyone is to be born again by receiving Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior.

Your second birth is all about what God has been about forever!

"Trust in the Lord, and do good, dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.  Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart." Ps. 37:3-4

Let's diagram David's words in this passage.

It is the Lord in whom we trust, that we may accomplish good things as we dwell in the land and stay faithful to Him; delighting in Him as He gives us the desires of our heart.

That is not complicated, is it?

But it is deliberate.

To experience what God has provided requires faith which has been explained as follows:

"Forsaking All I Trust Him".

"Turn your eyes upon Jesus.  Look full in His wonderful face.  And the things of this world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace."

"And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son." John 14:13

Read this statement of Jesus and realize that it is His declaration to all whose trust is in Him to hear and act upon their request in prayer.

The earthly agenda of Jesus was to provide salvation for all separated from God by sin to become united again with Him as it had been before Adam's fall in Eden.

God is most glorified on this earth when this "unification" occurs as the result of man repenting of his sin and receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Then, as His child seeks His face in prayer it is His pleasure to respond and bring glory to His name.

Prayer is "High Priority" with God.

Never doubt this.

Just do it.

The success we experience on our feet results from the time spent on our knees with God.

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance." Ps. 33:12

Labor Day, the last "official" holiday of summer, and an appropriate time to pause to express thanks to God for His blessings upon us.

And well we should take the time to do that this year.

We are not a nation at war, but neither are we a nation of peace.

Rather, we are torn, divided, distracted and disturbed.

What can bring us together?

It is NOT what, but WHO?

Just as Psalm 33, above, reminds us, we are at a total loss to be united except through God's blessing.

It is not His will that we perish.

Therefore, what responsibility should each of us accept?

Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain to build it.   So also goes America!

August 27, 2015

"And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ." Phil. 4:7

God's "built-in security system".

That is another way of describing His peace which envelopes our heart and mind when we spend time reading His Word and praying.

Some describe their time alone with God as their "Quiet Time".

Obviously you have learned the value of this as you have taken time in this present moment to turn your thoughts toward Him in a moment of quietness as you seek His face to know His will.

The apostle Paul learned this invaluable lesson very early in his ministry as he spent three years directly following his conversion alone with God in prayer and meditation.  He was not idle during this time.  He was being prepared and equipped for the work to which he had been called.

Even Christ knew the value of being alone with God as He slipped away to a quiet place to pray for a season.

Time alone with God.

What a thought.    What a privilege!

"Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?" Heb.1:14

We do not worship angels, but to each born again child of God one has been assigned.

Think about God's marvelous provision for His child.

First, He created each of us in His own image.

Then He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take our sin upon Himself and die on the cross as the acceptable sacrifice for sin.

He then assigned an angel, as the Scripture says, "for those who will inherit salvation" by having received Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior.

Think about THAT, and soak it up to overflowing!

The Holy Spirit convicted  us of sin. God sent His Son. Jesus to pay in full the debt we could not pay, indwelt us to keep us saved, as is now our Shield and Protector as long as we live on this earth.

Is that not the most perfect plan of salvation ever?

"Joseph , a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means Son of Encouragement) sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles' feet."  Acts. 4:6-37

The next time we see Barnabas he was bringing Saul to the apostles.  Acts 9:27

Get to know Barnabas.

As you emulate him your life will be enriched.

He was a "Hero of God".

In the Bible we learn that at the very beginning of the church in Jerusalem, Barnabas bought a field and gave it to the church that his brethren could eat.

On another day he brought Saul to the apostles with whom he shared how he had been preaching Christ in Damascus, and they accepted him and assisted in beginning his first missionary journey  as Paul the Apostle.

Barnabas. One man with one plan.

To be an ENCOURAGER.

Could this also be God's plan for you?

.."receiving the end of your faith--the salvation of your souls."  I Peter 1:9

It is true that Christians live by faith and not sight, but just as Peter said in the verse above, the day is coming when we will look with our eyes upon Jesus Himself .

"What a day that will be when my Jesus I will see!!"

Some sage spoke of those so heavenly minded they are no earthly good, and to the degree that those neglect the opportunity of being witnesses of Jesus there is truth.

It has been said that most rather "see" a good sermon than hear one anytime.

It's true.

Most prefer that one show, or demonstrate, his or her faith in Christ than to to be continually "preached to" about Him.

I like the way Jesus said it best of all.

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father Who is in heaven."  Matt. 5:15

"..whom having not seen you love.  Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory."  I Peter 1:8

Isn't that something?

You love Jesus even though you have never seen Him physically.

This is far more than "admiration"; an emotional thing such as one might feel for someone whose accomplishments or achievements have earned him a "good name" or reputation.

One's love for Jesus is so much more!

It is a love that defies human explanation; the kind of deep devotion resulting in a willingness to be TOTALLY COMMITTED precisely as Peter whose love for Jesus  was manifested with inexpressible joy.

Perhaps a comparable way we can express this love in human terms is to compare it with the marriage vow to love "Until death do us part".

Marvelously and wondrously,as the BRIDE OF CHRIST, our love for Him is for ETERNITY..........inexpressible and full of glory!!

"Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman who does not need to be ashamed." 2 Tim. 2:15

There has never been a book comparable with the Bible, therefore make it a point to include reading it daily.

Studying God's Word is always results in guaranteed returns.

Psalm 19 declares that the Bible is more desirable than fine gold.  Proverbs declares that it is more precious than rubies. And in Psalm 119, it is declared better than coins of gold and silver.

Make a deposit of your time daily in searching its truths, and the dividends of wisdom and knowledge will surpass any endeavor you ever make to become wealthy....GUARANTEED by the Teacher, Himself, the Holy Spirit of God, the Author and Finisher of all there is to know about God.

"that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tried by fire, may be found to praise, honor and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ." I Pet. 1:7

The genuineness of your faith.

What exactly is that?

According to the apostle Peter it is whatever causes praise, honor and glory to be bestowed upon Jesus.

Take a personal test.

What about you glorifies Him?

It does not have to be a carbon copy of your brother or sister in Christ, but it does have to be genuine; the "real thing".

All are not alike, but all "alike in Christ" result in praise, honor and glory to Him..

Do your own thing.

Just do it for Christ.

August 18, 2015

"In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials."  I Peter 1:16

Consider the date of the statement of the Apostle Peter.

He wrote in Century One.

In Century 2015, the same message would be timely to Christians.

And urgent message came through last week from a missionary and his wife who were crying out for prayer as just ten miles from their house the enemy had just killed every child of every couple who refused to bow down to a false god.

Just minutes from our house and your's every Lord's day the same enemy convinces neighbors it is not important that they keep Sunday holy by making worship their number one priority.

Satan is on a rampage, and faith in God is being sorely tried by the devices of Satan aimed to close every house of worship and eliminate every semblance of Christianity in America.

Yes, Christians are grieved by the trials of the hour,  The battle rages, but victory is assured through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

August 17, 2015

"Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage."  Gal. 5:1

Some publicly profess faith in Jesus Christ but lack the joy and freedom that comes from having been born again and baptized into a life of freedom from keeping the law; a thing that no one can successfully accomplish by working for it.

The day you received Jesus into your heart and were born again you became a new creature in God's sight with all your sins paid for an forgiven.

This is why the apostle Paul wrote the Christians in Galatia and told them to stand fast in the liberty that their trust in and acceptance of Christ had resulted in complete forgiveness of their sin.

Satan does not want anyone to believe this.

For that reason, Paul admonished those whom he wrote to live as new creations in Christ, and avoid becoming entangled with trying to "earn" salvation by their works.

A gift is received; not earned.

Accept God's promise that you have been purchased by His Son, and forever you are FREE!

"....let your conduct be worthy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ..Phil. 1:27

These words, spoken by Paul, the apostle, could be well displayed at the main exit of our home as we depart daily to enter "our" world; that  place where we are seen most often.

"To whom will you share a good word about Christ today?"

Perhaps you may not actually speak one word about Him, but your conduct will!.

It's a thought worth pondering.

August 13, 2015

Take a moment to encourage yourself.

See God's hand upon your life, regardless of circumstances by putting together two declarations by the apostle Paul, one in Philippians and the other in Romans, each of which conveys the same encouraging truth.

In Philippians 4:6-7 the apostle wrote, "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Then connect Paul's words as found in Roman 8:28 and be encouraged and strengthened for whatever you will, or already have encountered.

"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."

Some cynics may chose to describe this as fatalism.

I choose to describe it as FAITH.

That choice makes life "live-able" every day.

August 12. 2015

"But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it." 2 Timothy 4:17

Consider from your innermost being exactly what the apostle Paul was saying in this verse.

God had chosen him to communicate the Gospel to the Gentiles, or non-Jews, so that all would understand He desired everyone to be saved from His wrath by receiving His Son, Jesus, as their Savior and Lord.

When we read in the Bible that "God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son" we need to be reminded that He called out and set apart those such as Paul to be His spokesman to whosoever will hear and heed the call of God to forgiveness of sin and salvation of their eternal soul.

The apostle was spared from death many times, because God had determined to call and use him as His spokesman to proclaim the gospel to the whole world and not just to the chosen nation of Israel.

He is a beneficent, loving, merciful, and forgiving God, and whosoever will may be born again and saved from eternal separation from Him.

God indeed did give His only begotten Son, Jesus, to die for the sin of man and purchase his salvation on the cross.

There is no greater gift for all mankind than God's salvation.

"I will lift up my eyes to the hills---where does my help come from?  My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth." Ps. 121:1-2

Reading today's newspaper, or listening to tonight's world news could easily result in asking the same question of the psalmist, shown above.

And well it should.

Are we dependent upon God for the help we need to lead us, and keep us, on the right path that we may not miss out on being where He would have us be?

Many times He is our "last resort" which results is disappointment on our behalf for not seeking Him first.

In verse 3 of this 121st. Psalm we are reminded that "He will not let your foot slip"..

In this day of uncertainty there is no asset greater or more valuable than the assurance of God's presence and counsel.

In verse 5  of this same 121st Psalm we read, "The Lord watches over you", and in closing it is repeated again that "The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore."

He is our Personal God.

August 10,1015

"Create within me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me."  Ps. 51:10

One way to express the verse above would be to say, "Life lived in such a way that when people get to know me they will know the Spirit of God who resides within me."

I have a friend whose practice it has been to think immediately after awakening of putting on the whole armor of God from head to toe.

As he envisions himself dressing to stand against the enemy of the flesh; Satan, he quotes Ephesians 5:13-18 explaining how God protects him from head to foot with spiritual attire covering the most vulnerable places of the body.

No one is exempt from attack, but one filled with the Holy Spirit one has much greater hope of victory than one who does not yield his or her will to the will of God.

Being Spirit-filled is a choice; a conscious decision to permit God to be "in charge".

That's why Paul's admonition was to "PUT ON", as one puts on clothing to cover the nakedness of the flesh.

God is willing to fill whosoever will.

WE MAKE THE CHOICE TO ALLOW HIM TO DO SO.

August 7, 2015

"I will lift up my eyes to the hills.  Where does my help come from?  My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.  Ps. 121:1-2

As I join the psalmist in asking "from where does my help come?

Just where does one receive the help to live the "faithful life" of God in this twenty-first century?

And the answer comes. "I am God.  I never change."

What a fantastic promise!

God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

What comfort as we realize that history will reveal to us the solution to every present situation and the answer to every question, because of the steadfast faithfulness of Jehovah God.

Therefore, whatever was right for His people in any age continues to be right for the one in which we live.

Think of and ponder the thought; "I serve an unchanging God".  What a STUPENDEOUS blessing THAT WHAT WAS RIGHT THEN IS STILL THE SAME TODAY.

 It's really just that simple.

"Because He loved your forefathers and chose their descendants after them, He brought you out of Egypt by His presence and His great strength to drive out before you nations greater and stronger than you to bring you into their land to give it to you for your inheritance, as it is today." Deut. 4:17-18

Notice carefully that it is God Who has Himself chosen Israel.

There is NO power great enough on this earth to change His plans for His own children.

Israel belongs to the Jews by the decree of God.

He said they will live in the land He gave them until He makes the decision that it will be somewhere else.

God's favor rests upon His people, and no matter how many devices, schemes or pacts other nations use to try to root Israel out of Israel each is doomed for failure.

God's own Word says so.

What will it take for a so-called enlightened,"educated" government to accept this truth?

It would greatly help if they believed what "thus says the Lord."

One day, they will!

August 5, 2015

"I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving kindness. I will build you up again and you will be rebuilt, O Virgin  Israel." Jer. 31:3-4

Reading God's promise to Israel is like a tonic to all whose faith is in Jesus Christ.

He knows precisely the future of Israel, His Chosen People.  THEY WILL SURVIVE!!

And because God says so we, too have assurance that what seems "unlikely" to some today IS ALREADY HISTORY, as far as He is concerned.

Never doubt that one day every person who has been born again will walk on the streets of Jerusalem and celebrate the beginning of eternity.

Having great memories of having  walked those streets three times in my lifetime remains one of the highlights of my life.

Knowing next time I will join all others whose Savior and Hope is Jesus Christ we will celebrate the beginning of eternity together, a fact totally beyond words to describe.

The best way I know how to give you a description is to say, "Meet me there and see for yourself!"

You'll get correct directions from Jesus Who said, "I am the Way,the Truth, and the Life."

August 4, 2015

"Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name.  Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits--who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's." Ps.103:1-5

In one verse David captured in words the most accurate description possible of Jehovah God.

He forgives, heals, and redeems us to satisfy the deepest longing of life; to be eternally renewed exactly as He has promised to all who desire to be citizens of heaven through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.

He truly is the all sufficient God and Father.

He so loved the world He sent His Son to not only tell us this was true, but to demonstrate it on the cross as He gave His very life in exchange for our salvation.

That's why the old Negro spiritual says, "No one ever cared for me like Jesus!"

Are you experiencing THAT life NOW?

"'Though the fig tree does not bud and and there are no grapes on the vine, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, YET I WILL REJOICE IN THE LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior." Habakkuk 3:17-18

As I copied this passage I could hear reverberating in my mind the words, 'when all fails', rejoice in the Lord.

What an attitude!!

No, not attitude.

But FAITH!

Suppose what this nation would be like if each of us could demonstrate such faith in God for just one week?

We could win this world to Christ, beginning with our own loved ones, and continuing to the ends of the earth.

It is going to happen one day when "every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord."  Phil. 2:11

"..Who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion". Ps. 103:4

That's one of the ways the Bible identifies God; our redeemer from the pit.

Thank Him for so loving the world He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall never perish, but have everlasting life.

What a realization!

That God loves us with such love He provided eternal life before He created the world.

The Bible says, "In the beginning...God."

It was that way, because God brought everything that is into existence, including man, and at the same time looked beyond his life on earth and sent His Son to make the way for us to live with Him forever in total oneness and perfection.

He is the All Sufficient God.

The one Who became your Father the instant you received His Son as your personal Lord and Savior.

NO DOUBT....the absolute most important decision ever made by anyone.

July 30, 2015

"A just God and a Savior. There is none besides Me."  Isa. 45:21

Today boasts of many gods.

Jehovah declares Himself to be the only God.

He also said, "I am the Lord your God.  You shall have no other gods before Me."

Since it was Jehovah who created the heaven and the earth, and nothing existed without His creation of it, that's proof enough that He ONLY is God.

Wouldn't it be a different world if everyone agreed on this?

One day it will be that way all over again....and forever.

I'm looking forward to that day; the one that will never end.

It's called heaven.

"For God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life..............WITH GOD!!

July 29,2015

"Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth."  Ps. 47:10

Depend on it.

God said, "I will be exalted"...both on earth and in heaven.

He is already exalted in heaven.

He will be on earth, because in that day heaven and earth shall be one and the same.

Imagine that!

Heaven.  A city fifteen hundred miles in every direction and Satan eternally bound in Hell with all his fallen angels with every soul that rejected Christ as Lord and Savior.

Your eternal home in heaven.

Is it reserved?

It is if your name is written in the Book of Life.

Absolutely guaranteed!!
