""My flesh and my heart may fail.  But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." Ps. 73:26

No doubt.

One day our heart will fail unless Jesus comes to take us with Him.

But till then, He is here to sustain us, and that is worth repeating.

Tell this good news to someone today whom you may find discouraged or afraid.

You may not get to share your faith, but you can praise God for your health and strength.

Some are timid regarding witnesses.

Most are thankful to share that their health is good and their heart is strong.

Why not say, "Thank God for good health and a healthy heart!!"

You just witnessed, and God was glorified.

"Praising God for your healthy heart; a good way to share your faith in Him

Witnessing does not have to be a 'BIG DEAL"!.

"The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary.  He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught." Isa. 50:4

Get the news.....straight from God.

He's up long before the tv newscaster, and His report is always accurate.

He wakens us, LIKE IT OR NOT, to teach us truth.

And the truth will set us free.

If He's not first, He ought to be!

And we will be far more informed than any news agency is capable of doing.

Many times they get "the cart before the horse".

Trust God first.

Then you will know the truth that will set you free to engage the rest of he day with assurance that He is in control.

No better way to go than with Him!

"He is the Rock, His works are perfect, and all His ways are just.  A faithful God Who does no wrong, upright and just is He." Duet. 32:4

God said it.

That settles it.

But not for all.

1,500 cults in America alone..

People denying.

Churches dying.

A faithful God remains the same.

Whose right?

God, or man?

You decide.

"I am am the Lord,  I change not." Malachi 3:6

"The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.". Deut. 33:27

Since God is eternal.

Since He Himself chose to be our refuge.

Since having His arms underneath us continually is His sacred promise.

Whom should we trust?

Simple, isn't it.

Why do we delay our decision to allow Him to be all He has chosen in our behalf?

It is a mystery.

The United States of America; one nation under God.

His arms beneath us.

Are they evident as you watch tv or read the paper?

"Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.  Then you will be prosperous and successful." Joshua 1:8

God's servant, Moses, had died.  Joshua was being commissioned by God Himself to step into Moses's sandals and lead the people of God.

The fist thing God commanded him to do was to meditate on His Word.

For this reason...more than a decade ago, that same Spirit of God spoke and directed me to read and follow what He had said in His Word.

Thus, I began to write, "I Read Where God Said" as a weekday devotional sent as an e-mail, and today as a blog.

His Word has never failed me.

Neither will it ever lead you astray.

God will have the last word.

Why not permit Him to have the first.

Jesus said, "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." Mt. 6:33.

He had never rescinded the command, nor changed His mind.

"Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord Almighty."  Zech. 4:5b

Got any problems you can't resolve?

The old "spiritual song" reminds us to "Take it to the Lord, and leave it there!!"

Oh how desperately we wrestle with this in our "fix-it" generation.

God says, "Seek Me first".

The flesh says "I CAN HANDLE IT!"

What do You say?

Test yourself to see.

Much is revealed about us when we honestly answer this one single question.

But oh how very much is resolved when we get it right!!

"Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vine, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though, there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet will I rejoice in God my Savior."  Hab. 3:17-18

It is hard to imagine a situation more drastic than the one above, spoken by God's prophet, Habakkuk

He described a most drastic situation, but truly one that resembles America with increasing speed as this nation, once mighty under God, has lost her way as far as faith in God is concerned.  And the "FAITH CROP" is failing.

Only a shell of what we once were, as far as church attendance is concerned.  Less than 15% of the nation now worships God publicly as congregations die and buildings crumble for lack of upkeep and repair.

But far from "hand wringing and despair" it is time for all who know God to stand up and be counted.

Today's Monday.

What's on your calendar for Sunday, the Lord's Day?

If it isn't committed to worship and praise of God, what are your plans?

It is the question God is asking!!

Choose you, this day, where you will be on "Son"-day"!

"Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake; some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt." Dan. 12:2

You, ALIVE FOREVER!!!!!!!

That's exactly what this passage promises to all who know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.

The Bible is filled with just such promises; that all who repent of their sin and receive Jesus as their personal  Lord and Savior will indeed live forever with Him.

A precious granddaughter attending med school in Hawaii occasionally calls to share her excitement of having visited another of God's beautiful sights. She does so, because her grandmother and I were there the year we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary, and she knows her calls make that visit live again in our memory.

Heaven will exceed even the most beautiful spot on that grand island, and when we get there it won't be for a visit, but for eternity.

Isn't that just like God; to make a place so absolutely perfect and beautiful there is no other place that compares to it.

You don't want to miss it.

It's for eternity!!

"His kingdom is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed." Dan. 7:14b

Here is a picture worth a thousand....no....ten thousand words; the Lord Jesus as ruling King of Kings and Lord of Lords whose kingdom will never end.

AND WE ARE THERE!!!!!!!!!!!

With Jesus, our Lord and Savior FOREVER!

Can you even imagine how this is going to be?

One day.

We know not when.

But YES it will be so!

Do you know Him?

If not, make time today to seek Him, and you Will find Him.

"He (God) reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells in Him." Dan. 2L22

Sometimes we get exasperated when we try to figure out God, especially when He shows us truths as the one printed across the top of this devotional that very plainly informs us that He knows what He is doing in every circumstance and situation.

Perhaps He permits this, because He wants to re-assure us that regardless of what appears to be, He is still in total control.

THAT'S A PRAISE.

One finds it difficult to listen to ever breaking news today and not become uneasy, to say the least.

But God is indeed still God, and He will be forever.

You may not be able to reverse the trends of the world, but you can stay fixed on God assured that ultimately there will be resolution to all our problems.

Jesus is coming again!

"Praise be to the name of our God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are His.  He changes times and seasons; He sets up kings and deposes them."

We do not have to wonder.

God is in control.

A week ago time changed from Eastern to Daylight Savings in our geographic area. We did not catch God asleep.  This Friday He changes seasons; from winter to spring, and He has since the beginning.

He also changes kings and those in authority.  Their time is limited.  His is for as long as earth shall stand.

We can't outdo God!

But we can live in harmony with Him.

He made that possible, too.

He sent His Son to forgive us of our sin and to transform us into His own people.

Trust Him and see.

"The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the Lord Jesus."  2 Cor. 4:4

The god of this age and the "author of confusion" are one and the same.

Satan is not stupid.

He knows well what he is doing.

He has blinded many and kept them from believing that Jesus is "the way, the truth, and the life".

What he is doing is exactly as he did the day he tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden.

He lied!

What's so amazing is man's unwillingness to recognize Satan's lies and run to the Light that he might be freed from the darkness of sin.

Confusion?

He is the author of it!!

But Jesus said, "I am the light of the world.  He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of the world. Jh. 8:12.

"For it is by grace you have been saved, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast." Eph. 2:8-9

You almost certainly know of the acrostic derived from the word "grace"; "God's Riches at Christ's Expense".

How true, because ALL our righteousness is as filthy rags without the sacrifice of Jesus in our behalf.

With complete humility and all gratefulness we say "Thank You God" for Your grace and mercy in giving us your only Son to pay the price we could not afford for the forgiveness of our sin.

The possibility is that you have, or will, pray today.

The reason, first of all, is because you desire Him to hear your request; whether for forgiveness, guidance, or to express your thanks.

The FACT that prayer is available to us is altogether the grace of God.

Don't neglect the privilege, either way.  Be grateful He hears through our Savior, Jesus Christ, interceding on our behalf.

Our Father.......... the all-sufficient God.

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9

The apostle Paul understood  human nature; that Christians do become tired and worn living the Spirit filled life in a society bent on rejecting Jesus as Savior and Lord.

Shrinking numbers of people attending church, increased crime, and far less regard for the teachings of the Bible make it more difficult to remain faithful to God.

But know for a fact that He has not lost His power and knows the very hairs of the head of every person who has remained steadfast in faith.

Jesus told us how to live in such a time as this.

He said, "Seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you."  Mt. 6:33

Never doubt that faithfulness is never wasted.

It may seem that it does not matter, but not with God.

Don't give in to Satan.  He's a lousy liar.

The truth will set you free!

"At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate one another, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people."  Matt. 24:10-11

Having experienced in my lifetime a very obvious turning from the faith and the appearance of many false prophets, my attention is riveted to the words of Jesus in this passage in which He described things as He said they would be before His coming again.

Truly he did not specifically declare the exact time, but He did give us enough information to arouse our attention as we live in a time such as today.

The obvious "turning away from the church", and the "hatred of one another" displayed before our eyes daily on television are evidences that the time in which we are living coincide with the words of Jesus as He drew near the end of His earthly ministry.

By the grace of our loving God we are being made aware that the return of Jesus is near; a time when He will take away those who have trusted Him as Savior and Lord, with all others being left behind.

Those days will not be pleasant.

Of that there is no doubt.

March 10, 2015

"At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate one another, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people." Mt. 24:10-11

It is not necessary to write more than what has already been spoken by Jesus and written by Matthew.

We are right in the midst of those times of which Jesus spoke two thousand years ago.

Just read what he said..."many will turn away from the faith", "will betray and hate one another", "false prophets will appear and deceive many people".

Listen to today's news, compare what you hear with what you just read, above, and you won't have to use your imagination to see that what Christ prophesied is identical.

False prophets and deceivers are "a dime a dozen" in this twenty-first century spreading the very message Jesus warned they would two thousand years ago.

Talk about the Bible being timely.

It reads exactly like today's headlines, and that's NOT coincidental.

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength." Deut. 6:5

A "saying" by Brother Thomas appeared in a devotional booklet I read daily.  It said, "Count as lost every day you not have used in loving God."

The Holy Spirit used those words as an arrow entering the recesses of my mind until they touched
my heart and resounded in my ears.

How many have been the times when I stretched out on my bed and realized that the "busy-ness" of my day had kept me from the "secret place" with the Lord.

My thoughts turned directly the very old hymn written by William D. Longstaff; "Take time to be holy; Speak oft with thy Lord; Abide in Him always, and feed on His Word.  Make friends of God's children, Help those who are weak; Forgetting in nothing His blessings to seek."

Jesus knew us well.

He said, "Seek FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness..THEN all these things will be added unto you." Mt. 6:33

March 6 2015

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. This is the first and great commandment."  Matt. 22:17

"Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you."  Matt. 6:33

You know, anyone who plants these two commandments of Jesus in his or her heart has learned the greatest lesson life can offer.

The person fulfilling these commandments to love and keep Him first, or uppermost, is destined to one day to hear Him say, "Well done."

I do not know even one person who would not like to hear God say that to him, or her self.

He did not complicate things.

He told it like it is.

God did NOT say this, but I do; KEEP IT SIMPLE, STUPID.

Do what God said, and be blessed!

"As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man." Mt. 24:37

No one ever described more clearly how "things" will be when He comes again than Jesus Himself.

Sin is rampant, war is continuous, fear is constant, confusion is the sub-title of news whether written or broadcast.

We live in a day exactly as when Noah's preaching attracted NO ONE.

A prophecy of doom?

Not if your mind and heart are set on Jesus.

He is NOT THE AUTHOR OF CONFUSION!!

In the midst of it all He still says, "I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE."

Believe Him, and seek Him, the Author and Finisher of our faith; the BEGINNING AND THE END.

"And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father of mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life?  Mt. 19:29

A few times my wife and I have had the privilege of having missionaries in our home, or for a meal in a restaurant, or as guests in churches where we served.

Recently we had that opportunity as a teenager we had known in such a situation had grown up, married and become the wife of a missionary now serving in a very different culture in a distant land.

She and her husband were stateside to enroll their teenage son and daughter in Bible College.

How much we enjoyed lunch together just days before this couple would become separated from their "never away from home" teenage son and daughter as they prepared themselves for whatever God's will may be.

As I read the words of Jesus, above, my mind returned to that visit we had enjoyed with this missionary mom and dad who for the first time in their lives would leave behind their this son and daughter.

My wife and I thank God such a dedicated and loving family separating to respond faithfully to the call of God upon each of their lives.  The words of Jesus, above, were being lived out before our eyes, and we praised God for the blessing He poured out on us.

MARCH 4, 2015

"Therefore, everyone who hears this sayings of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house upon the rock."  Mt. 7:24

Just fifty feet, or less, off a federal highway no more than ten miles from where I live is a residence literally built upon a rock, the sight of which can be seen just feet beyond the rear entrance.

I have wondered if the builder knew what Jesus had said about building on a rock.

Whether a house, or our life, each of us is building every day.

Have we been wise enough to build on the foundation of Jesus Christ?

Of this, Jesus said, "The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock." (25)

"Jesus said....I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies,   ..." John 11:25

You perhaps remember these words spoken by Jesus to Mary, the sister of Lazarus, who had been dead for four days and was already in the tomb.

Put yourself in her shoes and remember this encounter as you consider what lies beyond death for all whose faith and trust has been placed in Jesus as personal Lord and Savior.

No question but there is grief and sorrow at the passing of a loved one.  It is only human to long for one whose presence will be missing.

But keep in mind that Jesus said, "Let not your heart be troubled.  You believe in God.  Believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions.  I go to prepare a place for you, and if I go, I will come again and receive you unto Myself, that where I am you may be also."  John 14:1

He was talking about heaven.  But even before heaven we who will have died in Christ will live upon this earth with Him for a thousand years.

What a plan.

What a God!!!
