"But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love." 2 Peter 2:5-7
Previously, this week we've endeavored to understand God's "all sufficient" grace by looking to see its component parts as presented by the apostle Peter.
Faith has "roots"; each reaching out to enlarge our capacity to become mature as growing believers in Christ. The root; faith in Christ with the "vine" consisting of 7 characteristics seen in Peter's words. We have looked already at virtue, knowledge.Faith,
Let's examine perseverance, godliness, kindness and brotherly love.
To persevere requires "patience". Understood without doubt, but to obtain it, we need Christ as Lord for surely patience is of His grace only.
Perhaps you have heard the phrase, "the patience of Job". That's it; the exact thing needed to remain consistent in our walk with God.
"Godliness" God, obviously the source. Seek His kingdom first, above self, and what will result is brotherly kindness and love.
How do these things manifest themselves in us?
According to Jesus we should "Seek first the kingdom of God". Then, live it by "Doing unto others as you would have them do unto you."
A clearer explanation of what Jesus meant?
Most likely. But this one is pretty good for starters, wouldn't you say?
